HOUSING ACCESS WORKER

The Housing Access Worker, under the EHSJ Manager of Housing Outreach and Access’s supervision, collaborates with the Transitional Housing team at 106 Airport Road. This role involves balancing individual housing support with the broader goal of ending homelessness in St. John’s, using a person-centered approach to systems-level work. Specifically, this role will focus on working with residents ready to transition to permanent housing from the transitional site, including completion of required documentation and identifying potential housing solutions.

The Housing Access Worker has experience in community and/or public sector work, and a keen interest in how a well-designed system leads to better outcomes for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The ideal candidate will enjoy the opportunities and challenges of supporting a purpose-built organization working to make St. John’s the next community in Canada to end homelessness.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Housing Access Worker will play a critical role in supporting individuals through their housing journey in finding and securing safe, affordable, and long-term housing. They will navigate existing resources and programs efficiently and possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. They are comfortable working with and responding to individuals in crisis, including those who may be using substances.


Community Database Training and Development Lead (HIFIS Lead)

The HIFIS Lead plays a pivotal role in ending homelessness in St. John’s by supporting the development and implementation of the web-based community-wide homeless client database system in St. John’s, which is being used by many partner agencies and administrated by EHSJ. The ideal candidate will enjoy the opportunities and challenges of supporting a purpose-built organization working to make St. John’s the next community in Canada to end homelessness. Under the direction of the Manager of Knowledge Mobilization, the HIFIS Lead’s primary goal is to help build the foundation of data and information and strengthen the use of the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) 4.0 within the community. This will allow the EHSJ team and other homeless-serving agencies to more fully understand the factors that contribute to homelessness and inform strategies to end homelessness in our community.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The HIFIS Lead will maintain and develop the site and user processes; coordinate training and develop user skills; gather, analyze, and synthesize data including through custom reports – all to inform strategic planning and policy development and to monitor progress toward our goal of ending homelessness. The successful applicant will possess both technical abilities to lead system maintenance and development, and communication and teaching skills to develop capacity in users across the community.

SUPPORT WORKER – TRANSITIONAL HOUSING INITIATIVE

The Support Worker is responsible for assisting clients staying at the transitional housing site and assisting in the day-to-day operations as needed. The Support Worker is responsible for providing information, referrals, goal planning, and safety planning to residents, along with crisis intervention support and other support services as needed.
The Support Worker has values that include recognizing individual strengths, building respect and trust, and offering unconditional acceptance. They are comfortable working with and responding to people experiencing crisis, and those who may be using substances. The Support Worker demonstrates awareness of personal boundaries and can communicate these effectively.


FLOOR COORDINATOR – TRANSITIONAL HOUSING INITIATIVE

The Floor Coordinator is responsible for assisting clients staying at the transitional housing site and assisting in the day-to-day operations as needed. They also supervise the support worker team for the assigned floor and coordinate room block communication. The Floor Coordinator has values that include recognizing individual strengths, building respect and trust, and offering unconditional acceptance. They are comfortable working with and responding to people experiencing crisis, and those who may be using substances. The Support Worker demonstrates awareness of personal boundaries and can communicate these effectively.
